IETF drafts

I've quickly browsed the two drafts (draft-alvestrand-dispatch-rtcweb-protocols [1] and draft-alvestrand-dispatch-rtcweb-datagram [2]) published under dispatch. They are a good start, but I have some initial comments: 1. The use of the terms Session and Channel defined in [2] is not 100% clear. In addition, the term Connection is frequently used in [1] and [2] but not defined. This should be clarified. 2. It should be clarified that each Channel is using a unique port (i.e. is not multiplexed) 3. The API must not only support the selection (based on a negotiation) of media format, in order to make it possible to have a meaningful negotiation it must also support query of the supported media formats 4. It should be mentioned that the voice and video streams must have some basic rate control applied so that they do not starve other traffic 5. The statements on echo control and voice level in Section 8 of [1] are very vague. Maybe something like: "Echo cancellation should be provided to avoid disturbing echo during conversation" and "The level of the speaking voice should be configurable to a desired level" would be better? The IETF meeting in Beijing is both too close to host an official RTC-Web get-together and too sparsely attended to garner many of us, but still... who is going to be there, and when should we try to get together for an informal conversation about the next steps of work? Harald

OK, better to do something than to search for perfection.... Reserving a dinner table for 8 PM in Beijing turns out to be problematic, since the normal dinner time is 6PM, and restaurants close around 10. This limited the options. I've arranged with the hotel to reserve the BAMBOO private room in the SHANG PALACE restaurant from 20:00 tonight, set for 25 people - it will be set up with a big table for the CODEC guys, a big table for the RTC-Web guys, and a small table for those who can't decide whether they're one or the other :-) See you all there, and welcome! Dinner status, Beijing

I have the following participants for the Monday night dinner in Beijing: Markus Isomaki Richard Barnes Jean-Marc Valin Harald Alvestrand Timothy B. Terriberry Alissa Cooper Koen Vos Ingemar Johansson Mary Barnes Robert Sparks Marshall Eubanks Gonzalo Camarillo and have also invited Ted Hardie. For any late changes - send me an email in addition to updating the Doodle at <http://www.doodle.com/cp7i6dt5v39xpevs> ! The plan is still not final (that is, I haven't booked the place yet), but I assume that we're leaving from the hotel reception at 20:00, which is hopefully after the end of the technical plenary. There's no set agenda, and I don't expect there to be much whole-group talking (group too big), but this is a good chance for raising issues and sharing events that are relevant to the RTC-Web work that have happened since the workshop.
